Recruiting in the Digital World Go Beyond the Clicks - Your Career Intel

Recruiting in the Digital World Go Beyond the Clicks - Your Career IntelWhen recruiting in the digital world, its important to go beyond standard websites and job boards in order to find qualified leads that arent as obvious. In todays social media-driven world, its easy for recruiters to rely heavily or solely on sites such as LinkedIn and ZoomInfo to acquire leads. Oftentimes, recruiters neglect to utilize more traditional methods of sourcing talent. Throughout my 20 years as an Executive Recruiter, Ive learned several multifaceted lead capturing techniques to implement when searching for the most high-caliber talent and industry leaders. As technology has steadily progressed year over year, Ive found there are still several methods to identify and network with top candidates versus todays norm of social media sites and job boards to create meaningful connections.Industry Events Attending industry networking fests is a strategic way to connect with potential candidates and clients. Usually, these events attract high-performing professionals within a defined industry who portray the characteristics of thought leaders and play a crucial role within their organization. These events give attendees the opportunity to converse fact-to-face and create personal connections with each other, which can be challenging to gain from your typical job boards or social media platforms. Try getting involved with a relevant organization in your area and try to attend at least one industry event per month to grow your network base.Blogs Be sure you are following blogs that pertain to certain industry topics or that continue to contribute to your expertise. Leave insightful comments to create rapport, and be proactive with initiating a conversation. In doing so, you can build credibility and begin dialogue with potential candidates, which in-turn can lead to stronger relationships down the road.Referrals Your past candidates are invaluable and play a key part in searching for your next professional to fill a critical ort. Be sure to stay in touch with previous candidates beyond their placement. Finding someone through a referral can also help ensure they stay in the position longer, are easier to hire and at times, can allow for a faster hiring timeline.Recruiting is a relationship-driven industry, and successful recruiters must rely on more than job boards and social media to connect personally with candidates and clients. I advise my team to act as investigators throughout the search process in order to uncover talent they wouldnt otherwise have found. Talk to people in-person at networking events, join an industry-related blogging portal and remember to build your businesses beyond LinkedIn. If you invest the time and energy into some of these avenues for sourcing candidates, youll be sure to get the talent you need for every position. What are some avenues or search techniques you use to find talent to fill jobs? Leave us a comment in the fields below.

9 Ways This SAHM Responds When Someone Asks What Do You Do All Day

9 Ways This SAHM Responds When Someone Asks What Do You Do All Day I spent a lot of my early parenting years at home with my kids all day. It welches an exhausting job. Truthfully, there were days that I couldnt even tell you what I did all day, because my day had been comprised of so many teeny, tiny actions that all added up to one big, long and exhausting day. To list out the seemingly trivial tasks that made up my day would have just seemed silly. But sometimes, you still come across that rolle who has to ask you what it is you could possibly be doing all day if you didnt have time to shower, cook, or do any of the other chores that they seem to think should be easy.Next time you have someone ask you what you do all day being home with the kids, you can hit them with one of these go-tos. This list is sure to quiet their judgmentreal quick.1. I did the dishes... and it took hours. But it wasnt just the dishes, because doing menial chores like laundry, dishes, or cleaning up the hous e happens at lightning speed before kids. After kids, however, doing a load of dishes means you have to stop to grab someone a snack, wipe a butt, clean up a spill or go on a hunt for a quiet, destructive toddler. Every small interruption makes your small chore take far longer than it should. And by the time you are done emptying a freakin dishwasher, you realize hours have passed, and you still havent showered.2. I showered (for once).Showering with kids home is a great big ole pain in the butt. Not only do you have to get them sufficiently set up with snacks and entertainment before you dare start undressing, but they will likely follow you right in there anyway demanding help and immediate answers to all of lifes fruchtwein complex questions. Theres usually some family discussion right outside of the curtain when I shower, and many times its one that I dont even need to be a part of.3. I emptied the trash. But it wasnt just the trash. It was walking around the house and picking u p all of the juice-box straw cellophane the kids have left all over the carpet, making sure they didnt have candy wrappers hidden under their pillows or scrap papers cut up into tiny triangles all over the table (and underneath it, and shoved into drawers). And when I was hauling it all outside, the toddler let the dog out the front door. So, I had to chase her down the street. In my pajamas. With no bra on.4. I made 2,945 meals.Never mind that each one was rejected. I still made them, because that was what was requested. Imagine my shock when I spent time expertly preparing the perfect orange wedges, peanut butter/cracker sandwich with a slice of American cheese sliced into squares for my child to completely decline it with utter disgust.5. I cleaned carpets, washed floors, wiped off furniture, and cleaned the toilets. Not because I wanted to, but because each of those items had some food, drink, or bodily fluid smeared onto them at some point today, and I was forced to disinfect an d scrub them down in an attempt to maintain their integrity just a taaaad longer. You know, Ill be doing this until my kids grow out of spilling sticky EVERYTHING everywhere. Or, they move out.6. I made phone calls. With a TV remote. To the toddler.Who insisted on playing FaceTime and walked around from room to room to show me every toy within her reach.7. I kind of cooked dinner.I did chop, slice, and diced everything for dinner and throw it into this magical thing called a crockpot so that it could cook as I bathed, dressed, and attempted to clean my kids room for the TWELFTH time today.8. I paid my bills... on timeOn the couch. While tiny demon versions of me were crawling all over my body, knocking my smartphone out of my hand every option they got.9. I went grocery shopping (not online). But not out of desire, more out of necessity. I can see why many people use grocery delivery services now because I gotta say... of all things motherhood, grocery shopping with kids is my LEAST favorite chore. If I were to run down the list of the very mundane tasks we complete (or at least try to finish) when we are home all day with kids, people would think I did the bare minimum or nothing at all most days. But if I were to tell someone that I spend an hour trying to dissect gum from my childs hair while I attempted to fold the laundry, well, that means Im a majestic multitasker. Make sure when youre explaining your ever-so-enjoyable day at home to your insensitive friend that you really make sure to break it down for them. They are going to need the details. After all, you have it made, momAdditionally, when someone feels compelled to ask you what you did all day as a SAHM, then I think you are well within your right to ask them to please send you an itemized, detailed list of their job requirements and duties performed of every minute of every day. Because when you break down even the most exciting of careers, everyone has their list of tiny steps that get them to the big ones. Just because ours as a stay at home mom include more bodily fluids, damage control, and snacks doesnt make them any less critical to the big picture of what our job reallyis. And that is to take care of and raise our kids to be independent, healthy, and happy kids. And as long as we are getting that message by the end of the day, well.... then you dont get to ask me what I did all day. I did THIS gestures vaguely around the house and I kicked butt at it --Nicole is a realtor, divorced mom of three, and ally to the transgender community. The Surprising Step You Should Take to Find Your Next Job Opportunity

The Surprising Step You Should Take to Find Your Next Job OpportunityThe Surprising Step You Should Take to Find Your Next Job Opportunity Between the new opportunities, colleagues and environment, starting a new job is often an exciting time. Whats not so exciting? The job search process itself. I have yet to meet a person who actually enjoys scouring open job listings, vetting companies and coordinating interview times (or worse - hearing radio silence from the companies theyve applied to). If there were a quick and easy way to streamline the process, most job seekers would take advantage of it in a heartbeat. But the truth is, there is a simple way to streamline your job search, and at no out-of-pocket cost to you. Its just that many people arent aware of it. Working with a staffing services firm can ease or even eliminate many of the biggest job search pain points. To get the details on how it all works, I chatted with Ryan Lynch, a Client Relationship Executiv e at Kforce .Once you make contact with a staffing services firm, whether you reach out to them or they reach out to you, youll have a recruiter assigned to you whose entire job is to connect you with the right opportunities. The nice parte about working with a staffing services firm is that you are essentially crowdsourcing your job search efforts. I talk to enough people who are looking for a job to know that most find it to be a scary proposition, because theres no defined roadmap. When youre looking at different job postings you see different titles, different job descriptions and sometimes it just gets confusing. Thats where we come in, Lynch says.Recruiters will work with you to figure out what youre looking for and why, Lynch says. For example, Do you like the flexibility of contract work? Are you looking for a more permanent placement?Once we decide what path you need to take or where you want to go with your career, you suddenly have multiple associates throughout the fir m actively advocating on your behalf with our clients, Lynch explains. Plus, we arent just putting your resume in a portal - were having face-to-face conversations with the managers who have the ability to hire you . A firm like ours has access to more than 50 years of rich history and relationships throughout the country that you get to build upon. From there, your recruiter will identify interested companies, coordinate interviews and even help you polish your resume if needed. Most companies will help you write your resume as part of their services. When I meet with a candidate, I see it as part of my job to sit down with them and work on their resume with a critical eye, Lynch shares.Another benefit of working with a staffing agency is that you continue to receive support even after youve found and accepted the right job for you.The minute you accept that offer , youre going to get onboarding emails and youre introduced to our consultant care program. We have a portal which rea lly acts as a home base for anything you need related to your placement, whether it be payroll, benefits, additional training or resources to reach out to, Lynch says.Beyond that, staffing services firms are committed to keeping touch with you even after youve started your new job in order to ensure that youre getting everything you need.To me, consultants are the lifeblood of everything that we do, and I truly believe we embrace that idea as a company. Sometimes people are surprised by the consistent follow-up they experience once they become a consultant. We have a structured process where the recruiter who helped you find that job will be there to support you throughout the assignment, Lynch explains.Often, recruiters will meet you on-site on your first day to walk you in, set you up for the project and introduce you to the team. From there, theyll check in at least every couple of weeks and provide consultant events quarterly and ongoing training. Recruiters will even reach out to your employer to make sure that your experience is going as well as it possibly can.On the client side, we check in regularly to ensure things are going well and to gather feedback which we can share with the consultant, Lynch says.Because not everybody is familiar with staffing services firms, there are often myths and misconceptions around how they operate. One of the biggest is that you, the job seeker, have to pay them for their services. But in fact, staffing services firms revenue comes from their clients - the employers looking to fill positions. If someone is asking you to pay for their service, its a red flag and you should look elsewhere, Lynch cautions.Another prevalent misconception job seekers have is that firms only offer short-term assignments. However, most of our business is actually geared toward long-term engagements, either in project work or contract-to-hire, Lynch says. As companies are transforming their technology or their business, a lot of times they want to retain the people who helped them build their system and have the institutional knowledge. Also, I often hear the assumption that we just sling resumes and that couldnt be further from the truth. The intent is always to form lasting personal relationships whether that be to help you find a permanent job or if you want to deploy from assignment to assignment, Lynch adds. Thats what most good firms are searching for - people who want to have a mutually beneficial relationship to help them achieve their career goals while solving problems for our clients.Want to take your job search to the next level?
